HMRC Conservation and Preservation program, July 26

WHO: The Friends of the Texas Room (of the Julia Ideson Library, downtown), present their quarterly meeting, free and open to the public.

WHAT: Laney McAdow and Mary McMillen (both on staff at the Houston Metropolitan Research Center) will speak on the conservation and preservation of books, documents, letters, newspapers, leather, and photographs and conduct a brief demonstration of techniques for preserving the life of these kinds of materials.

Mrs. McMillen worked 25 years in the Harvard University Library System, including 16 years as collections conservator at the Graduate School of Education. She studied bookbinding and conservation at the North Bennet Street School in Boston, and is a member of AIC and The Guild of Bookworkers.

WHEN: Monday, July 26, 2010, 6:30pm reception, 7pm program

Free parking is available in the lot across the street or in the small lot on the left, adjacent to the Museum building.

This position assists the Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services in management, direction, fiscal oversight, and long-term strategic planning for the Section. He/she serves as Metadata Coordinator and operational manager for the Copy Cataloging Unit.
