“More Product, Less Process” (MPLP) has been a hot topic ever since Greene and Meissner published that famous article back in 2005. Have you been wondering how you can apply the principles of minimal processing to your collections?
AHA is sponsoring a 3-hour workshop on May 13, 2010. Mike Strom, Senior Archivist at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, will take us through the ins and outs of MPLP and help us think about how to apply it in our own archives. Munters, in Pasadena, is graciously providing the classroom space.

This position reports directly to the Head of Special Collections in the University Libraries. Responsibilities include supervising staff and a team of student workers in data entry and other tasks. Also oversees online delivery of archival collection finding aids. Coordinates department activities such as scheduling the reception and reference desks, is responsible for monitoring the departmental security system and oversees the organization and maintenance of the book stacks for efficient use. Also coordinates tracking use and ordering of supplies, as well as other administrative duties as assigned.
Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
Coordinates and provides senior-level administrative support to an ongoing program at the University.
Requires a 4 year degree preferably in liberal arts discipline and a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience. Also experience working in library in archives setting is a plus.

Come hear about Houston Public Library’s newest special collections and tour the renovated facility which formerly served as the first public school for African Americans in Houston.

Lena LeMoal, who talked at AHA last summer about book conservation, will be teaching a course on basic book and paper repair.
I have a book in bad shape, what do I do? Learn the answer to this common question in this two-day workshop. Students will be guided through the different steps in evaluating damage to a book, tips on handling them, decisions to make as far as the type of repair, the budget, the options and the right people to call. Participants will learn minor repair techniques that they can do at home, as well as the proper materials used to preserve treasured volumes. Students are welcome to bring a book with a problem to be approached and discussed during class.

The Houston Academy of Medicine – Texas Medical Center (HAM-TMC) Library seeks an Archivist. This individual will be responsible for the physical security and environment of the historical collections (photographs, archives, manuscripts, and books) housed in the Historical Research Center (HRC). He or she will also offer reference support and assistance to Library clients, arrange and process archival collections, and prepare and manage the budget for the HRC.
Preferred candidate will possess Archivist Certification through Academy of Certified Archivists.
