March 2004 Program Meeting
AHA Presentation to Houston Area Southern Historians (HASH)
March 10, 2004, 7-9 pm
Location: Harris County Archives (see map & parking information)
Cochairs: Sarah Jackson and Paul Scott
Purpose: Letting active local historians know what local records are in our collections and how to access them.
Sign up with Sarah Jackson by March 1 to participate!
Send her your survey form (see example) and any repository brochures.
Meeting Part 1 (7-8pm)
Introductory 10 minute talk by Paul Scott about primary source records and archives in general (what they are, how they are created.)
Very short talks from various archives about their collections relating to local history. (5 - 10 minutes each, depending on the number of archives that sign up - presentations will be timed)
Each HASH participant will be given a folder with a survey form completed by each archives.
No powerpoint or overhead, please.
Meeting Part 2 (8-9 pm)
Question and answer period, and time to socialize so the HASH members can ask specific questions of the archivists of their choice.
Water and possibly soft drinks will be available at the meeting
Afterwards, all are welcome to adjourn to Main Street for a drink or a bite to eat.

Also consider taking the train - it's about a 20 minute ride from the Medical Center and then just a short 3 block walk to the courthouse. |
